Learning to Live Together (LTLT)

Context

4 7 sdg target

The Education 2030 Framework for Action calls for the provision of opportunities for lifelong learning that permit all individuals to “acquire the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that are needed to build peaceful, healthy and sustainable societies.”

Specifically, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 4.7 indicates: “By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.”

Within the West and Central African region, climate change, poverty, gender inequality, political instability and unemployment adversely affect peace and sustainable development. In particular, young people do not have access to quality learning opportunities where they acquire knowledge of human rights, sustainable development, environmental issues, a culture of peace, critical thinking and problem solving skills, respect for cultural diversity and gender equality. The inability of the available education opportunities in the formal, non-formal and informal sectors to provide citizens with these skills, combined with the rise of organized crime and violent extremist networks, result in regional instability and insecurity.

Objectives

The RCG4-WCA “Learning to Live Together” or “LTLT” task team aims to increase collaboration and dialogue and share information among members of the RCG4-WCA who support areas related to education for sustainable development (ESD) and global citizenship education (GCED), with priority focus on the prevention of violent extremism through education (PVE-E) and radicalization, which are particularly urgent issues in the region. The team will also focus on education for the mitigation of climate change.

The "Learning to Live Together Sustainably" Online Platform

Within this context, the online platform "Learning to Live Together Sustainably" was created at the request of country PVE-E focal points. The objective of this platform is to create a virtual community of practitioners engaged in the theme of ''living together'' to share resources and experiences, to inform each other of current, past and future activities and events and to identify synergies in order to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for more inclusive, peaceful, healthy and environmentally friendly societies. The task team, within the scope of this community, shares all of its resources on the platform.
